A BLOG FROM THE FAMILY BAR

A chip off the old writer’s block

Everything I was going to blog about has evaporated from my brain as I sit her with my tapping fingers poised above the keyboard.

So instead I will tell you (cos I can) of the proud feeling I have in my tummy cos my eldest boy came home from rugby with the player of the week trophy – and that he rang the five minute bell in an unfamiliar tower. like a total pro. AND how he told me with pride yesterday “Mummy, I can do my g’s round the right way now!”. The boy who last year cried on the side of the pitch and at the door to the classroom, but this year is on School Council. And how my youngest was in the golden book for “fabulous concentration and doing his work on time” (he still refused to join in with rugby, mind). And how proud I am to have completed my VAT return in one sitting without a single swear word. And how lovely it was to listen to my dad laughing with the boys as they thrashed him at motorcross on the xbox. Yes, it’s been a good weekend in our house.

No law though, sorry ’bout that…

Glad to see real life intervening, moments like this are important and in years to come you will not remember that great skeleton argument you prepared, but the time he was awarded rugby player of the week award (especially as he leads out England for the 2035 world cup) 🙂 .

Ha ha. I’m secretly hoping he will learn some non-violent transferable skills from rugby like team playing and perseverance go and take up some non-contact sport once it’s out of his system. But it’s lovely to see them do well and get a kick from it.

Yes, but has he learnt what he will need to know when it is time for him to go out and start sweeping chimneys?

He’s already quite good at getting dirty, that’s for sure.
