Marriage: The First Decade

Being a parent puts me in a better position to deal with children cases, to understand clients and their experiences of parenthood. I’m pleased to say however that I have not yet taken this principle to its logical end in relation to my divorce work. This would be going beyond the call of duty (in point of fact some times staying married to me probably seems above the call of marital duty). This week will see our 10th wedding anniversary, although at the rate this week is going it’s looking likely that I will see more of my mountain of paperwork than I will of ‘im indoors. If we’re lucky we will go to the cinema together on Saturday where we will fall asleep in our popcorn. Who says romance is dead?

In truth, I had been meaning to post something about divorce statistics using the hook of our anniversary, but workload has meant that I have yet even to establish whether or not we’ve crossed the threshold to a longer than average marriage (yes, yes it certainly seems that way – boom boom). I have established from the probably-soon-to-be-abolished National Office of Statistics that divorce rates are at a 25 year low, but that’s the extent of my research to date.

So. In light of the time I will tailor my submissions to home in on my best point: Love ya hubby. xx

PS This morning I have been sent a link to a blog post entitled “30 blogs for surviving a divorce“. Do you think someone is trying to tell me something?

my recollection (i regret to inform you) is that the average length of a marriage that ends in divorce is presently 11 years. if that is right then i am afraid that you and your husband are not out of the woods just yet, so you may want to cut down on those late nights poring over last minute briefs.
i on the other hand was married to my wonderful wife (she may see this) in february 1998, so am now happily in the marital comfort zone. i trust this confident pronouncement will not come back to haunt me!
